Energetic Layers of Conscious and Subconscious Material

The concept of referring to feelings, sensations and thoughts as materials is quite interesting to me in the context of introspecting in order to identify and process unwanted, disturbing or unbalanced energy. I have found that before proceeding to analyze and dissect what one could be experiencing, first being able to understand that we “exits” and experience our lives at different levels/layers simultaneously can assist our understanding about what layer or layers could be mainly involved and therefore accommodated to, meaning targeting that area as the focal point for conscious healing and acknowledgment.
The three layers out of the five that stand out the most or are more commonly identified are the physical, emotional and mental layers. Within the realm of pain, disease and dis-ease, most people will be able to tell the difference between their chest hurting because they got hit by a soccer ball and their chest hurting because of an emotional reason such as the loss of a loved one. It’s not always the case that the emotional or mental layers are usually understood immediately even by the individual having the experience. The physical layer is much more apparent, when we bleed, when we have a burn or are in bed ill, we know it’s because of a physical reason majority of the time however chronic emotional and/or mental pains and disturbances can eventually take a toll on the physical body. On the flipside when one is ill or hurting physically for an extended amount of time this may have an effect on the emotions and thinking patterns of an individual in the negative sense. From these examples one can come to the conclusion that layers are interwoven and can affect all the other layers of energetic material, like in the case of pain and uncomfort. Healing and wellbeing, however, also have an impact, a beneficial one, especially if it is directed and focused on the area or layer where that particular pain and discomfort is rooted. An example of this would be feeling lethargic and upset with oneself for having digestion issues and pulling back from having other life experiences because of a physical factor that prohibits movement and causes pain. Reorganizing how you perceive this can help, and finding emotional support from others or self can also be heartwarming thus changes the severity of the case, yet since it is rooted in the physical body, when approaching to take practical steps to bring back to harmony the body’s functions (either by researching, seeking professional advice, changes in routine/habits/lifestyle etc) one can feel true relief, that is because the main affected layer has been identified and worked on.
The idea of specifying and being truly conscious of one’s wounds even if not entirely understood yet, is the perfect preface for explaining further the kind of work and approach I am taking in terms of energy healing work. This is how I categorize, at times, complex and abstract phenomena in order to break down the smog and the mysterious element that can at times follow and smear the core issue at hand. This is a process to assist personal transformation and restoration of the energetic bodies or in this case more specifically the energetic layers of conscious and subconscious material. The first three layers the physical, the emotional and the mental layers are greatly personal and are for the most part conscious aspects of ourselves, the emotional and mental layers can be more intricate and require deeper inspection however like in the case of the physical layer, they can be more obvious places to identify when pain arises and exists because it is personal, one knows when they are overthinking, stressed or emotionally upset and in need of their partners affection for example. The final two layers are possibly the most elusive and difficult to detect, but like all five layers have an equally impactful influence on an individual's wellbeing and energetic state. The Psychic layer is mostly external and not personal (as in it’s not entirely to do with you), it’s the layer that connects us to others, the world around us and the spiritual plane, it can be difficult to pinpoint where and how a psychic pain/ wound began or whether or not we have one since it’s symptoms can be confused with physical and/or emotional/mental ones. A telltale sign is being unable to trace this back to you, not having had any kind of physical injury, or emotionally going through something or mentally troubled. It’s a sneaky kind of sensation/ pain that disguises itself as something else not to purposely fool you but it makes the process easier when one is using their intuition to identify what is in front of them even when it's invisible (always is). Most times it involves your connections to other people but it’s in this layer where other spiritual causes can be addressed properly. The other elusive layer falls under the subconscious category, it’s the shadow layer, also known as the shadow self/ personal unconscious. This is a deeply personal layer but not in a conscious way, it's the storehouse of all your experiences and psychological conditionings from early in childhood to the present day. All sorts of hurts, traumatic experiences and disappointments, failures, fears etc reside here, whatever programs you have running also reside here. This kind of pain can feel emotional or mental (on some level is/was) maybe even physical and can be easily dismissed since it's far harder to acknowledge a sensation you don’t understand that surfaced by some trigger you may not even have noticed, but can be very uncomfortable to feel and sense it. This layer requires special attention and an effort to unwind and rewire factors in the psyche that contribute to this invisible disturbance.
Physical pain can be obvious externally on the body and sometimes not, but on average clearly identified as physical by the individual. There are times when emotional pains (especially around the torso) or mental ones (especially around the head, eyes, ears) can seem quite physical but can actually be something else pertaining to the emotional or mental layers, although in the case of prolonged heartache and mental anguish it can certainly mesh into another layer such as the physical and have an actual physical issue arise as a result. Now, the tricky part is when there’s a psychic reason (psychic layer) that is actually affecting the physical condition and not just “seems” or feels almost physical but is actually affecting the body. This is less common, even rare but entity attachments, intentional psychic attacks like witchcraft (but not limited to) or even unintentional forms of psychic attack can cause such imbalances that are physical but have a more spiritual/psychic/magical origin. It can be quite easy to want to focus only on the physical (definitely try) but upon taking a closer look and trusting your intuitive insight the individual may want to address the psychic layer. More often than not, physical pain is usually highlighted, you can recognize it almost instantly. The shadow layer tends to have a false like physical pain/hurt sensation that yes can be hard to decipher at first but usually is quite distinctive and can be easier to tell apart.
The emotional layer is complex, sensitive and easily affected by the other layers. For instance, relationships and connections to others that are unhealthy can bring down someone emotionally and be hurtful, this is an example of how the psychic layer does tend to have a direct impact on the emotional layer, this process is ongoing. Sometimes we catch or absorb others' moods, feelings and thoughts (this is more of the psychic layer affecting the mental). When this does happen it can feel very much out of place especially when you’ve been feeling fine before an interaction or occurrence, the key here is that on some level you know it did not begin with you or doesn't exactly feel like your own feelings. Again the emotional layer is somewhat easily acknowledged. One last note is that it shares a special relationship with the shadow layer, everything you feel and experience gets stored in the shadow layer, this is why sometimes old feelings or weird sensations surface unexpectedly always in connection to past events (may be hard to know which) and why it can feel like it originates in the emotional layer but the difference is that the shadow does not represent current feelings and events, the emotional layer is always relatively current and you’re conscious of it.
The mental layer can be just as complex as the emotional layer, but it's in this layer where we find our voice and strength, and where we realize our potential. No matter what could be occurring in your life, affecting different areas (layers), your mind and your thoughts can change the trajectory of any situation around, it can be a healing force for any layer, may not be the final solution but hope, optimism and inspiration are found here as well as your individuality and truth. Mental disturbances can spin your perceptions and warp your inner and outer world, feeling disconnected from yourself and who you are or what you believe in can be stifling and halt other life experiences, here self imposed limitations can make an appearance. This layer also has a special connection to the shadow, conscious fears and self criticism as well as feelings of incompetence and weakness can point towards a shadow problem, an unresolved issue or fear of being yourself in any way or aspect can be worked on consciously to address the shadow layer. Of course overthinking, thinking negatively and stress can affect the mental layer and for this reason usually is quite easily distinguishable between what is yours or others/external. The psychic layer can also have an effect on the mental layer, sometimes connections and relationships of all kinds can alter your own thoughts (it happens when you’re around people that think a certain way, it’s natural), it can be a byproduct of being around certain individuals but it can also happen as a result of manipulation (from either a person or someone influencing you with the use of energy tactics). Nonetheless the mental layer, when worked on can be of great assistance towards your wellbeing and safety (as well as an aid for the other layers).
The psychic layer is likely the most misunderstood and perhaps taken the least seriously, connections and relationships of all kinds can affect us and this is the most acceptable part however the mechanics behind this is a lot less known or even acknowledged. This is the layer of all things mystical, spiritual, paranormal and extraordinary, the least logical of all the layers, even the shadow layer makes more sense from a psychological point of view. That being said I believe it is just as important and has just as equally a painful effect when we are experiencing an unbalanced issue that is rooted in this layer. This is mainly the reason I stepped into a path as an Energy Worker, firstly to bring more awareness and to offer services that align with my core truths and ideals but are also grounded in my own personal experiences with particularly the psychic and shadow layers, the two more enigmatic and dismissed aspects of daily life. There can be so much to cover here but the gist is that it’s etherical based.
The shadow layer is very interesting to me because it is so personal yet so hidden from our everyday awareness. This is the layer that I’ve noticed along with the mental layer that requires the most conscious effort to transform and heal but likewise, the layers that contribute the most to our personal and psychological growth. It’s also the case that this layer tends to be invisible from most people and confused with other issues from other energetic layers. The Shadow requires deep introspection and willingness to observe and to dig within the psyche, it can be done at varying degrees of intensity but even at a softer stage it can help shift old paradigms and help release one of the past to finally move forward, renewed.
Reiki, Cord Work and Tarot are some ways to address these energetic layers, they’re my chosen avenues for healing and working on all five layers. Reiki is beneficial for all (will likely not be a solution for the physical layer but it certainly can support and even bring insight), I personally think it has a great affinity for the emotional, mental, psychic and shadow layers. Cord Word excels in the psychic layer, also helps with the mental, emotional and shadow. Tarot when used with intention is extraordinary to help access the shadow and of course aid the emotional, and mental layers as well.
I felt compelled to write this article to help further explain my thought process and help others understand my personal insights into Energy Work as well as offer information that could be useful to anyone. I hope this serves you or at least gives you food for thought. Thank you for reading!
